Cops Grab Library Computers After Child Porn Found in Garbage

By LJ Staff

Police in Sun Prairie, WI, seized 26 Internet-capable PCs from the town
library after pornographic pictures of children, possibly downloaded from the
Internet and printed, were found in a trash can. Investigators additionally
confiscated a security tape, which may show the computer being used for illicit
purposes and the patron responsible. The hard drives of the PCs will be searched
and a list of patrons who borrowed or returned items was provided in an effort
also to disclose the perpetrator. The seized machines were replaced by South
Central Library System computer specialists as quickly as possible to restore
public Internet access, and the library is considering measures to prevent
future abuses of the service. The library does not use filtering software, but
library policy prohibits certain uses of workstations.
