LC Gains Staff in FY2002 Budget

By LJ Staff

The FY2002 budget for the Library of Congress (LC) includes net increase of
90 staff members and a 4.6 percent across-the-board pay raise, effective this
past January. Of the 90 new staff positions, 69 support library functions—46 of
them for the National Digital Library project. Two are for the American Folklife
Center, in support of the Veterans History Project, and seven more are in
folklife heritage preservation and access. The Law Library gained three
additional positions, Books for the Blind and Physically Handicapped program
gained seven, and the Copyright Office gained 14. The Congressional Research
Service, although getting an $8 million budget increase, lost eight staff
positions.
