Buffalo PL Announces Renovation, Retirement

By LJ Staff

Officials at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library plan a $5.1 million renovation of the Central Library in downtown Buffalo, adding a cafe, better seating, and a more user-friendly bookstore atmosphere. Also, Director Diane J. Chrisman announced she would retire at the end of the year. She was appointed in 1999, following a one year tenure as interim director and 39 years of experience within the system. The library board also reaffirmed its policy of unfettered Internet access. “With few exceptions, the policy that has governed Internet access has effectively controlled inappropriate activity and unacceptable behavior among 52 public library locations in Buffalo and Erie County for the past four years,” said Chief Operating Officer Michael C. Mahaney.
