IMLS Announces National Leadership Grants

The federal Institute of Museum and Library Services has awarded
$7,179,673 in National Leadership Grants for Libraries to 27 university
libraries. The two categories of funding are Research and Demonstration and
Preservation or Digitization–to 27 university libraries.

Among
the grants

:

California Digital Library, Oakland, CA. $374,736 to
create a model preservation repository for multi-institutional digital materials
following the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) reference model, in
partnership with the UC Berkeley Library. Johns Hopkins University, Milton S.
Eisenhower Library, Baltimore, MD. $229,352 for the “Peabody Digital Audio
Archives Project ,” a prototype for digitizing an estimated 10,000 analog
audiotapes and building a web-accessible digital audio library. University of
Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries, Lincoln, NE $245,723 for a partnership with the
University of Virginia to create a finding aid to an estimated 70,000 Walt
Whitman manuscripts found in over 60 institutions.
