Annex Demolished at Indianapolis Main Library

By LJ Staff

The next phase in the $104 million transformation of the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library’s (MCPL) Central Library has begun with the demolition of its five-story annex. This will be followed by the demolition of the northern portion of the original building, which housed the book stacks. The project involves the construction of a 236,000-square foot, six-story, glass-framed addition that will wrap around the original 1917 building. An atrium will link the new and original buildings. The transformed Central Library is scheduled to open in early 2006. Until then, downtown library services are being provided at the Interim Central Library.
