Bob Graham Wins Kate Greenaway Medal

Australian author and illustrator Bob Graham has won the Kate Greenaway Medal for Jethro Byrd, Fairy Child (Candlewick, 2002). The medal, presented by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, is the most highly regarded award for a picture book for children in the U.K.

The winner of the Greenaway Medal also receives the Colin Mears Award–a cash prize of £5000. Graham, who was born in Sydney and now lives in Melbourne, Graham says he plans to donate his prize money to various groups assisting asylum seekers and refugees in Britain and Australia.

Graham is known for titles such as Benny (Candlewick, 1999) and Let’s Get a Pup! Said Kate (Candlewick, 2001). For more information about the Greenaway Medal, which was first presented in 1956, visit www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk.
