FL Library Sees Meeting Room Ban Rescinded

By LJ Staff

Bowing to public pressure and warnings about vulnerability to a lawsuit, the Tarpon Springs, FL city council has stopped prohibiting outside groups from using the community room at Tarpon Springs Public Library. About a
year ago, the library limited meeting room usage to library groups only, after
refusing a request from the local chapter of Americans United for
Separation of Church and State
. However, next summer the room will be
converted to a children’s reading room, reported the St. Petersburg
Times
, and that frustrates residents who want a meeting space for their
groups. A smaller conference room will be available, however.
