Readers at New San Jose Library Set Record

By LJ Staff

Six volunteer readers at the new Martin Luther King Jr. Library of San Jose
Public Library and San Jose State University have apparently set the world
record for reading aloud. They spent nearly 75 hours–more than three
days–reading, easily surpassing the listed Guinness Book of World Records
mark of 53 hours and two minutes and even a pending 61-hour mark, according
to the San Francisco Chronicle. They finished August 16 with the
recitation of library namesake King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The event aimed
to promote both reading and the new facility.
