Random Names Daniel Menaker Executive Editor-in-Chief

By LJ Staff

Random House has tapped senior VP Daniel Menaker as the first to fill the newly created post of executive editor-in-chief. Menaker already oversees Random’s imprints, but in his new capacity he also will “oversee the editorial activities of Ballantine’s imprints as well” and “continue an active role in acquiring and editing literary fiction and nonfiction,” the publisher said. Jonathan Karp, editorial director for Random imprints, has been bumped up to editor-in-chief, adding the editorial departments of Villard, Modern Library, and Random Trade Paperbacks to his bailiwick. Also, Nancy Miller, editor-in-chief of the Ballantine imprints, has been named that unit’s executive editor.
