IMLS Names George V. Smith Named Associate Deputy Director for Libraries

George V. Smith has been named Associate Deputy Director, Office of Library Services, Institute of Museum and Library Services, effective February 1, 2005. "Dr. Smith is a well-respected library professional with a solid background in grant administration and outstanding management skills," said Robert Martin, IMLS director. Smith has been acting director of the Division of State Libraries, Archives and Museums in Juneau, AK, 2002. He began at the Alaska State Library in 1985 as deputy director. Smith has a B.A. in history from Whitman College; an M.A. in U.S. history from Washington State University; a Ph.D. in Southeast Asian and Indian history from Northern Illinois University; and an M.S. in library science from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
