Potter’s Goblet of Fire Burning Up the Box Office

By LJ Staff

Fans remain potty for Potter: while J.K. Rowling’s latest print installment Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince continues to rack up healthy sales, the feature film adaptation of book four, HP and the Goblet of Fire, is absolutely burning up the box office. Since its November 18 release, the film has garnered a remarkable $201.1 million in ticket sales, including a whopping $101 million opening weekend and another $55 million over the Thanksgiving weekend. "You’ve got to look at Harry Potter as being the savior of the box office right now," Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations, told the press. "Who would have thought in a year we’re having this down box office that we’d have the second-biggest Thanksgiving ever?"
