COA Continues Accreditation for Five Programs, One Conditionally

By LJ Staff

The American Library Association (ALA) Committee on Accreditation (COA), in its session at the 2006 ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, continued the accreditation of four Library and Information Science programs and granted conditional accreditation to one program. With the four continuations, the next program review is scheduled for fall 2012. They include:

  • Master of Arts offered by the School of Information Resources and Library Science at the University of Arizona, Tucson
  • Master of Library and Information Studies offered by the School of Information Management in the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS
  • Master of Science and Master of Arts offered by the School of Information Studies at Florida State University, Tallahassee
  • Master of Science in Library and Information Science program provided by the Palmer School Library and Information Science at Long Island University, Brookville, NY

COA granted conditional accreditation, with the next program review scheduled for spring 2009, to the Master of Library Science offered by the School of Library and Information Science at the Catholic University of America. On the Catholic University SLIS web site, the accreditation announcement does not reference its conditional nature: "We are pleased to announce that the American Library Association has extended the accreditation of our Master of Science in Library Science degree program through June 2009."
