Screen Adaptation of Dick’s Darkly To Be Live and Animated

By LJ Staff

Late author Philip K. Dick’s works have spawned some of Hollywood’s top sf action thrillers including Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report. The forthcoming adaptation of Dick’s A Scanner Darkly, which recently debuted at Cannes, takes a different approach. Director Richard Linkletter uses a combination of film and animation to tell the story of a future war against drugs. "Why animation?" said Linkletter, "I thought it would work on the viewer and would help them feel the story more." The film, which stars sf action hero Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, and Winona Ryder, hits the screen July 7.
