Thomson Gale has weeded 177 entries down to five finalists in its I Love My Library video contest. The top five vying for the $10 grand prize are an eclectic mix of the strightforward using clever effects replicating a pop-up book to an over-the-top villianous mayor slashing the library’s budget in order to buy a new top hat (I think there are a few of those out there actually) who is shown the error of his ways by Hemmingway, the bookworm (it actually looks more like a talking turd) to even zombies in the library (you’ve probably had a couple of those, too). A panel of judges selected the finalists based on creativity, the uniqueness of the filmmaker’s affectionate portrayal, and overall “likability.” All entries are roughly two-minutes long and are posted on YouTube. The finalsists are:
Green Gables Elementary School Library, Lakewood, CO.
Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, IN (this is the zombie entry)
The Towson Public Library, Baltimore
The Dozier Middle School and Main Street libraries, Newport News, VA,
The Columbus Public Library, NE
Though not in the running, my fav is still this gem.
