Thurber House announced that Bob Newhart, Merill Markoe, and Joe Keenan are this year’s trio of finalist for the 2007 Thurber Prize for American Humor. Newhart is nominated for his volume I Shouldn’t Be Doing This!: And Other Things That Strike Me As Funny (Hyperion), Merrill Markoe for Walking in Circles Before Lying Down (Villard), and Keenan for My Lucky Star (Back Bay), all published in 2006. The $5000 prize will be presented to the winner at an October 2 ceremony at Manhattan’s famed Algonquin Hotel, James Thurber’s sometimes home and watering hole, with 2006 nominee Bill Scheft as emcee.
