Fiction: 2008 Reviewer of the Year

By LJ Staff

Rebecca Vnuk, Head of Adult Services, Glen Ellyn Public Library, IL

Since 2004, Rebecca Vnuk has been LJ‘s resident expert on women’s fiction and chick lit, writing lively, thoughtful reviews in a genre too often dismissed as trivial. The novels she recently reviewed were Lisa Jewell’s Roommates Wanted (LJ 2/15/08) and Michelle Lee West’s Mermaids in the Basement (LJ 11/15/07). Rebecca also wrote the ground-breaking collection development article on chick lit, “Hip Lit for Hip Chicks” (LJ 7/06), and authored several roundups on holiday fiction and summer chick lit. She is writing two books for Libraries Unlimited, Read On…: Women’s Fiction and Women’s Fiction—A Research Guide, both to be published in 2009. But her proudest achievement is the birth this summer of her first child, a son.
