Nonfiction: 2008 Reviewer of the Year

By Heather McCormack

Corey Seeman, Director, Kresge Business Administration Library, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan

Five months before autism made the cover of Time magazine, Corey Seeman answered my call for reviewers with knowledge of this developmental disorder. A baptism by fire ensued, but Corey never balked at his monthly assignments. LJ thanks him for effectively jump-starting our coverage of autism and related conditions. The father of an autistic son, he identifies the information desperately needed by autistics and their caregivers and strives to be optimistic without verging into naiveté. And, like a good librarian, he probes autism’s controversial causes and treatments. Thanks to his collection development article, “Sending Postcards from the Airport,” libraries can start a core collection.

Craft Exceptional Digital Experiences for Your Users
Digital UX LJ and ER&L present an exceptional roster of library and user experience (UX) experts for our newest online course, Digital UX Workshop: Crafting Exceptional Digital Experiences for the User-Centered Library. During this 5-week online workshop, you will explore why UX matters, and how to sell user-centered design (UCD) to leadership within your organization. Whether you want to redesign your website, revamp your user interface, create a new discovery tool, implement e-resources, or develop a mobile app—you’ll have a tangible product by the end of the course.
