Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 05/19/11

Donna Bacon is the new Executive Director, MOBIUS, a library consortium based in Missouri. After a career at the Springfield-Green County Library, MO, Bacon joined MOBIUS in 2009 as Assistant Director, Information Technology, and has served as Interim Executive Director since July 2009.

Mike Bennett has retired from his position as Manager, Maple Shade Branch, Burlington County Library System, Westampton, NJ. He worked at the library system for more than two decades, following a career as an engineer.

Mary Patrick Bogan has been appointed Director of Book Conservation, Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), Andover, MA, succeeding Deb Wender, who retired in April. Bogan most recently was Senior Book Conservator at NEDCC.

Faye Chadwell, Interim University Librarian, Oregon State University (OSU) Libraries, Corvallis, since last fall, has been named University Librarian; she also will direct OSU Press. She succeeds Karyle Butcher, who retired last year.

Karen Culp, Director, Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, OH, will retire July 31. She has spent 31 years at the library, becoming Director in 2009.

Monique Le Conge is the new Director, Palo Alto City Library, CA. She most recently served as Director of Library and Cultural Services, Richmond, CA.

Theresa Morris, Reference & Instruction Librarian, College of San Mateo, CA, is the first librarian to chair the Committee on Instruction, beginning in fall 2011. She will help oversee the academic curriculum and advise the VP of Instruction and Board of Trustees.

Anne Neal, Librarian, Auberry Branch Library, Fresno County Public Library, CA, has announced her retirement. She started her career at the branch in 1973.

Kent Oliver, Executive Director, Stark County District Library, Canton, OH, was named the Stark County Bar Association’s Liberty Bell Award winner for 2011, given to nonlawyers who defend the Bill of Rights. Oliver currently serves as president of the board of the Freedom To Read Foundation.
