Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 06/30/11

Sallie Brodie, Adult Department Head, Cromaine District Library (CDL), Hartland, MI, has retired. Brodie worked at CDL since 1982.

Natasha Casteel has been appointed Head Librarian, Roseville Public Library, CA. Casteel most recently was Assistant Director, Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Libraries, NM.

Abby Cooley is the new Manager, Reistertown Branch Library, Baltimore County Public Library, MD. She most recently was Manager of Periodicals, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Baltimore.

Kenneth Harvey is the new Communications Director, Sno-Isle Libraries, Marysville, WA. He most recently was Marketing and Communications Director, Community Transit. Everett, WA.

Georgia Massucco, Director, Lee Library, MA, since 1987, has announced her retirement. Her 46 years of library service includes 22 years at the West Springfield Public Library, MA.

Paul Mills is the new Director, Fountaindale Public Library District (FPLD), Bolingbrook, IL. He became Director, Acorn Public Library District, Oak Forest, IL, in January 2011. He succeeds Vicky Trupiano, who retired December 2010.

John Spears has been appointed Executive Director, Naperville Public Library (NPL), IL, succeeding Donna Dziedzic, who retired June 30. Spears most recently was Executive Director, Joliet Public Library, IL.

Darby Syrkin is the new Director, Jackson County Public Library, Marianna, FL. She most recently was Academic Resource Center Librarian, Florida State University, Panama City.

Susan Turkel will become Psychology and Sociology Librarian, Graduate Library Reference Department, University of Michigan Library, Ann Arbor, effective July 2011. Turkel currently is Outreach & Information Technology Librarian, Bryn Mawr College, PA.

Molly Westmoreland has been named County Librarian, Ashe County Public Library, West Jefferson, NC. She most recently was Senior Librarian, San Jose Public Library, CA.

Four longtime staffers are retiring from Carnegie Public Library (CPL), Clarksdale, MS. Missie Craig, Director, has worked at CPL from 1974–85 and from 1995 to the present. Charlotte Huddleston has been Technical Services Librarian for 40 years. Linda White has been Reference Librarian for 41 years. Carolyn Williams has been Technical Services Assistant for 26 years. Carrie Peggs is named Interim Director and Sarah Ruskey is Assistant Director.
