Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 06/16/11

Deborah Barreau, Associate Professor, School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been appointed Frances Carroll McColl Term Professor, effective July 1. The position was established in 1997 to recognize faculty who have made notable contributions to research, teaching, and service. It provides a salary supplement and funds for research and travel for a two-year term.

Lana Bullian, Director, Safety Harbor Public Library, FL, for the past eight years, has retired. During her tenure the main library was renovated and expanded from 15,000 to 24,300 square feet.

Sara Bushong is the new Dean, Bowling Green State University Libraries, OH. She previously served as Associate Dean and two terms as Interim Dean.

Kathy Graybeal is the new Director, Sussex County Department of Libraries, Georgetown, DE. She formerly was Administrative Librarian, Delaware Division of Libraries, Dover.

Vicki Lenz, Circulation Services Supervisor, Appleton Public Library (APL), WI, has been named Director, Menasha Public Library, WI, effective June 27. She succeeds Tasha ­Saecker, who is now Assistant Library Director at APL.

Uma Sailesh has been named Administrative Director, Naperville Public Library, IL, responsible for human resources, finance, and facilities operations for all three library locations. She replaces Marcia Lebeau, who retired May 31 after 37 years of service. Sailesh previously was Human Resources & Organization Development Manager.

Lead the Change is a library leadership seminar that brings together library thought leaders to show participants how today's top libraries are leading change and transforming their communities. Attendees are lead through a series of exercises to help bridge key thoughts to individual leadership objectives to help them harness their ideas, their innovation and their ability to lead.
