Facebook: Tools to Engage Your Fans

We should be asking ourselves everyday: how can we engage conversation in our social media channels? After all, it isn’t a one-way monologue; it’s a platform for fans to talk together. Here’s a couple of ideas. And, as always, Facebook has already built some tools to make it easier.

Facebook Fan of the Week

Use this app to highlight, thank, reward your loyal fans. We selected a fan of the week to whom we sent copies of  advance proofs of hot titles coming out this fall. So many things you can do with this!

Contests:

Run  contests to engage customers with each other. We were given VIP Suite tickets to our local AAA baseball team by a donor.  We ran a contest asking fans to write a 100 word essay on how they envision the future of the library. Then we asked fans to vote for the winner. It was awesome!

Here’s a blog post on running contest on American Express’s small business forum that you might find helpful.

What kinds of things are you doing to drive engagement?
