Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 1/24/12

Steve Anderson, Director, Maryland State Law Library, has been elected  Vice President/President-Elect of the American Association of Law Libraries.

Jim Cooper, Executive Director, West Georgia Regional Library System, Carrollton, retired last December after 25 years of service. Roni Tewksbury, Assistant Regional Director, is serving as Interim Director.

Janet Davenport has been appointed Director, Keene Memorial Library, Fremont, NE. She retired from Omaha Public Library in 2009 as Librarian III.

Ana Grandfield is now Director, Lake County Public Library, Merrillville, IN. She was Assistant Director.

Mary Housel is the new City Librarian, Santa Maria Public Library, CA. She comes from Monterey County Free Libraries, Marina, CA, where she was Managing Librarian for Adult Services and Collection Development.

David Macksam, Director, Cranston Public Library, RI, since 1995, will retire January 27.

David Namiotka has been promoted to Associate State Librarian for Library Services, State Library of Ohio (SLO). He previously was SLO’s Director of Information Systems and ­Technology.

Lawrence Marble is the new Director, Garden City Public Library, MI. He most recently was Head of Adult Services, Salem South Lyon District Library, MI.

Mamie Ney, former Director, South Berwick Library, ME, is now working for the Maine State Library, Portland. She is Southern Main Library District Consultant, working out of the Portland Public Library.

Jeremy Reeder has been promoted to Deputy Director, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix. He previously was Branch Operations Administrator.

Susan Riley is the new Director, Mamaroneck Public Library, NY. She previously was Director, Mount Kisco Public Library, NY.

Linda Roe is the new Deputy Director, Des Moines Public Library (DMPL), taking over for the retiring Sally Wisdom. Roe was Manager, Forest Avenue Library and North Side Library, DMPL

Tom Sloan has been appointed Manager of Library Services, Boca Raton Public Library, FL. He previously was Executive Director, DuPage Library System, Geneva, IL.

Lynn Snodgrass-Pila is retiring from her position as Director, Nazareth Area Memorial Library, PA. Her successor is Josh Berk, formerly Children’s Services Librarian, Allentown Public Library, PA.

Carol Walz, Director, Estherville Public Library (EPL), IA, since 1975, and EPL staffer for more than 50 years, retired January 6. During her tenure, she established the library as a free service and oversaw a renovation project that tripled the library’s size.

Brentwood Public Library, NY, has promoted three staffers: Jose Rodrigo Hernandez is Bilingual Librarian, Tracy Van Dyne is Head of Teen Services, and Xibe Solis is Head of ­Circulation.

San Mateo County Library, CA, has hired two new Deputy Directors: Thomas Fortin previously was Director, Community Library Services and Collection Development Division, Queens Library, Jamaica, NY. Michael Lambert was Library Manager, Main Library, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, NC.

Sandusky Library, OH, has announced two new hires who formerly worked at Cleveland-based OverDrive: Samantha Chada, former Account Specialist, is Emerging Technologies Librarian, and Lindsey Levinsohn, former Collection Development Specialist, is Youth Services Librarian..

IN MEMORIAM

Jack Alan Hicks, former Administrative Librarian, Deerfield Public Library, IL, died December 23, 2011, at the age of 72. He retired in 2006 after more than 35 years of public service.
