Terrorism Research Consortium Debuts

The Beacham Group launched its Terrorism Research & Analysis Consortium (TRAC) on February 27, after eight years of research and development. TRAC features a consortium of 2,800 specialists reporting from Russia, Poland, Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Pakistan, Croatia, Afghanistan, Serbia, Sweden, United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and more.

“Many of TRAC’s contributors come from high clearance backgrounds. While they have all had their articles cleared by their institutions (like the Pentagon or the White House), we put all content through a thorough vetting process before publishing,” TRAC Editorial Director Veryan Khan told LJ.

TRAC also includes a real-time news feed that tracks events as they occur; profiles of 3800 groups that have been known to aid and abet political violence or terrorist organizations; original analysis; profiles and risk analysis of vulnerable regions and cities most likely to attract terrorist activity; Chatter Control to continuously monitor other news and analyses sources, and historical context.

“Chatter control is an editorial decision,” Kahn said, “We try to be as unbiased as possible, taking from as many different parts of the world as possible, from as many different types of places as possible.  And we include a lot of primary sources: congressional reports, communiqués from terrorist groups, manifestos and more. As you can imagine, there are some very vocal opinions distributed from think tanks that have an agenda.  Occasionally and with a careful eye, we do post from them if they are offering new information that could be relevant for a researcher.”

Users can input the promo code TeachTRAC for a free 90-day trial, or recommend that their institution subscribe. Subscription prices range from $1000 to $10,000 per year, depending on FTE (full time equivalent) or population served. Users can also apply to become a contributor.
