Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 7/4/12

Rebecca Bichel will become the next Dean of Libraries,University of Texas at Arlington, effective July 16. She currently is Associate Director for Public Services,Florida State University,Tallahassee.

James Casey, Director, Oak Lawn Public Library, IL, will retire in June after 20 years of ­service.

Kathy Hellman is the new Director, Camp Verde Public Library, AZ. She most recently was Manager, Prescott Valley Public Library, AZ.

Kate Hickey is retiring from her position as Dean and University Librarian, Elon University, NC, after 16 years. Her successor is Joan Ruelle, currently University Librarian, Hollins University, VA.

Charles McMorran is the new Assistant City Librarian, New Orleans Public Library. He most recently was Executive Director, New City Library, NY.

Phil McNulty is the new Director, Newton Free Library, MA. He was Director, Milton Public Library, MA, since 2003.

Frances Maloy will become College Librarian,Union College, Schenectady, NY, effective August 2012. She currently is Services Division Leader,Emory University, Atlanta, where she has worked for the past 20 years.

William Porter has been appointed Director, Roxbury Public Library, Succasunna, NJ. He previously was Manager, Newton Branch, Sussex County Library System, NJ.

David “Skip” Prichard, President and CEO, Ingram Content Group, will leave the company effective June 8; he joined Ingram in 2007. Chairman John Ingram will assume CEO duties. Prichardwill continue his popular blog, “Leadership Insights,” at www.­skipprichard.com.

Goran Proot has been appointed Andrew W. Mellon Curator of Rare Books, Folger Shakespeare Library, Washington, DC. He formerly was Keeper of Historical Collections, University of Antwerp, Belgium.

Hallie Rich has been hired as Marketing & Communications Director, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Parma, OH. She most recently was Senior Consultant, BrownFlynn,Highland Heights,OH.

Tyler Veak has joined the American Public University System, Charles Town, WV, as Online Librarian. He previously was Scholarly Communications Librarian, Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA.

Eva White, Director, Crawford County Library System,Van Buren, AR, for the past 13 years, will retire at the end of July. During her tenure, three new libraries were built, and another is on the way.
