Helene Blowers will join OCLC as WorldShare Management Services Community Manager effective November 1. Blowers, a 2007 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, is currently Director of Digital & IT Strategy, Columbus Metropolitan Library, OH.
Faith Brautigam has been appointed Director, Kokomo–Howard County Public Library, IN, succeeding Charles Joray, who retired in April. Brautigam was Director of Early Literacy and Learning Initiatives, Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, IL.
Sena Loyd, former Research Librarian at the Nevada Dept. of Transportation, has been named Technology Trainer, Carson City Library, NV.
Maliaca Oxnam, Associate Librarian, University of Arizona, Tucson, is the winner of the first annual Elsevier Library Connect Charleston Conference Award for first-time presenters for her session entitled “Moving Technical Reports Forward: New Roles for Libraries & Librarians.”
Kerrie Shaw has been named Director of Library Services, Edward E. Brickell Medical Sciences Library, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk. Shaw has been with the library since 1975.
Lynn Sheehy is the new County Librarian, Plumas County Library, Quincy, CA. She previously was Director, Lassen County Library, Susanville, CA.
IN MEMORIAM
Beth Howse, Special Collection Librarian, Fisk University, Nashville, has died at the age of 69. She also served as Director of Fisk’s Mini College, a children’s summer program, for more than 20 years.
Clara Stanton Jones, former Director, Detroit Public Library (DPL), died September 30 at the age of 99. Jones was the first woman and the first African American Director at DPL, serving in that position from 1970 until her retirement in 1978. In 1976, she became the first African American President of the American Library Association.
Harris Clark McClaskey, former staffer at the Washington State Library (WSL), Olympia, died September 21 at the age of 81.
Lead the Change is a library leadership seminar that brings together library thought leaders to show participants how today's top libraries are leading change and transforming their communities. Attendees are lead through a series of exercises to help bridge
key thoughts to individual leadership objectives to help them harness their ideas, their innovation and their ability to lead.
