Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 2/1/13

William Adamcyk is the new Director, Milton Public Library, MA. He previously was Circulation Manager and Reader’s Advisor, Thomas Crane Public Library, Quincy, MA.

Gia Arbogast has been promoted to Assistant Director, Outreach, Communications & Programming, Miami-Dade Public Library System, FL. She most recently was Library Branch ­Administrator.

Katie Bray has joined Bellingham Public Library, WA, as Public Services Librarian. She was Public Support Services Manager and Co-acting Director, Carbon County Library System, Rawlins, WY.

Christine Flaherty, Director, Bigelow Free Public Library, Clinton, MA, retired in January after 27 years on the job. Her replacement is Assistant Librarian Erin Klemm.

Greta Galindo is the new Director, Woodland Public Library, CA. She most recently was Library Supervisor, Folsom Public Library, CA.

Mary Ann Mavrinac is the new Vice Provost and Neilly Dean, River Campus Libraries, University of Rochester, NY. She formerly was Chief Librarian, University of Toronto Mississauga, Ont.

Kathy Meeker, Director, Scituate Public Library, MA, has retired after 23 years of service. She is succeeded byJessi Finnie, former Director, Whitman Public Library, Plymouth, MA.

Ester Moberg is the new Director, Seaside Public Library, OR. She most recently was Youth Librarian, Creswell Library, OR.

Donna Perdzock, Director, Euclid Public Library (EPL), OH, since 1992, has retired after 42 years of service at EPL. She is succeeded by Kacie Armstrong, formerly Branch Manager, Cuyahoga County Public Library, OH.

Alicia Salinas, Director, Alicia Salinas City of Alice Public Library, TX, retired at the end of December 2012 after 45 years of service. The library, where she began as a cataloger in 1970, has been renamed for her.

Nicole Saylor has been appointed Head of the American Folklife Center Archive, Library of Congress, replacing Michael Taft, who retired in 2012. Saylor had been Head of Digital Research and Publishing, University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa City.

David Tate, Director, Van Buren District Library, Decatur, MI, for the past 34 years, retired on December 31. He is succeeded by Ryan Wieber, formerly Director, Otsego District Public Library, MI.

Cindi Trainor, a 2011 LJ Mover & Shaker and Vice President of the Library Information Technology Association, a division of the American Library Association, has joined Springshare, a library software vendor, as Community Specialist & Trainer. She previously was Coordinator, Library Technology & Data Services, Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond.

Spencer Watts is the new Director, East Baton Rouge Parish Library, LA. He previously was Director, Mobile Public Library, AL.

Cleveland Public Library (CPL) has announced two new hires. Buffy Hamilton (a 2011 LJ Mover & Shaker), formerly School Librarian, Cherokee County School District, Canton, GA, and the Unquiet Librarian blogger, is now Learning Strategist, CPL Knowledge Office. Sherri Jones is Literacy & Education Coordinator; she most recently was Director, Educational Opportunity Center, Cuyahoga Community College, ­Cleveland.

Ingram Content Group has promoted Dan Sheehan to Vice President & General Manager, Library Services Group. He was Vice President Sales, Ingram Book Company, and Vice President & General Manager, Ingram Periodicals. Pam Smith has been hired as Vice President of Global Sales, Library Services Group. She most recently was Senior Vice President, Follett Corporation.
