Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries 8/15/13

Matthew Brine was appointed Vice President and General Manager of ProQuest’s Serials Solutions. He previously held the same title at OpenText’s EasyLink and Fax and Document Distribution business unit.

Alberta Davis Comer was appointed Dean and Director of the J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah, Salt Lake City. She was previously Dean and Associate Dean of Library Services at Indiana State University’s Cunningham Memorial Library, Terre Haute.

Sandra Cooper announced her retirement as Director of the Sonoma County Library, Santa Rosa, CA, effective in September. She has worked in the field for 46 years.

Heather Cousin was named Director of the Simi Valley Library, CA. She previously held the same position at the Moorpark City Library, CA.

Mary Pat Fallon was promoted to Director of the Doctoral Program at Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science, River Forest, IL. She was previously an assistant professor at the university.

Pat Hofmann retired as Director of Calvert Library, Prince Frederick, MD. She had been in the field for 34 years.

Julie Holden was named Information Services and Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Cranston Public Library, RI. She was formerly a Reference Librarian at the Pawtucket Public Library, RI.

Julie Hunter announced her retirement as Associate Director of the Broward County Public Libraries Division, Fort Lauderdale, FL, effective August 31. She has been in the field for 47 years.

Norman Maas has retired as Director of the Norfolk Public Library, VA. He had been with the library for ten years.

Barbara Roark was named Assistant Director of the Hancock County Public Library, Greenfield, IN. She was formerly Director of the Franklin Public Library, WI.

Neil Safier was named Director of Brown University’s John Carter Brown Library, Providence. He was previously an Associate Professor of History at the University of British Columbia.

Susan SanSoucie plans to retire as Director of Montague Public Libraries, MA, effective in October. She first took the position in 1976.
