Join Library Journal for the third Future of the Academic Library Symposium: E-Texts, Big Data, and Access at Rice University in Houston, TX, to engage in conversation with a stellar gathering of academic librarians who will share their ideas and solutions—and how they are leading within their organizations to create dynamic, future-proof academic libraries.
We’ll draw on experts in the field to deliver keynotes and lead panel and roundtable sessions that cover issues critical to academic library success. What are the emerging trends in e-textbooks and course readings, in data curation and management, and in exposing e-content? What are the current, and in-beta, best practices and models to emulate? Together, we will explore the opportunities and challenges for libraries and librarians in delivering these new services including:
Defining, acquiring, and providing access to e-content and its role in better positioning the library in the institution
Establishing and operating data curation repositories
Supporting the life cycle of researcher’s data needs, from initial development to preservation of and access to datasets
Exposing the academic library collection and ensuring success for searchers
We will delve deeper into issues, both big and small, presented during the day at the Roundtables discussion session. Each roundtable will give attendees the opportunity to get up close and personal with experts and peers to hone in on topics from the symposium keynote and panels, including digital collection development and management, local and national repositories, the intersection of ILS and discovery, new skill sets for digital collections, big data, curation, and more.
Attendees will walk away with practical info on e-content acquisition, licensing, and access, on the librarian’s role in big data, and on the expanded purview of the library and librarian in the institution.
