|Join us at Seattle Central Library for a day-long seminar on reimagining public library spaces in a digital world.
Hosted by Library Journal in partnership with two award-winning institutions, The Seattle Public Library and King County Library System, this latest installment of our highly acclaimed library building design event will address the challenges libraries face in reconfiguring their spaces to accommodate changing user needs as ebooks and other e-resources expand.
Come together with librarians, architects, and vendors to explore topics such as: creating experiences that will draw walk-ins to the library, repurposing existing space as print collections and staff shrink, designing spaces for different types of use and different users–and doing it all within budgets constraints.
“I was looking for creative, out of the box ideas – and I got it!”
The Design Institute will provide face time with architects, furniture and equipment vendors, and colleagues, as well as the opportunity to participate in one of the architect-led breakout sessions dealing with real-life design challenges submitted in advance by attendees. Following the breakouts, participating architects will present “takeaways” from the design challenges, and for those seeking even more inspiration, Seattle Public Library and King County Library System will host a tour of local libraries the day before the event.
Admission is limited to the first 100 registrants, so sign up today!
Time: 12:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 9th.
Participants will have the opportunity to choose between two tours. Each tour can accommodate a maximum of 30 people. Box lunches will be provided on the bus.
Tour 1: Sammamish Branch (KCLS), Newcastle Branch (KCLS), Douglass-Truth Branch (SPL) and Seattle University Library.
