Join Library Journal, Los Angeles Public Library and an array of expert speakers at the fourth annual Directors’ Summit entitled Disruptions and Opportunities: Libraries Welcome Change. This two-day program will focus on coping with the changing world and embracing disruptions in technology, services and collections to move your staff and library forward. We’ll look at how these disruptions change the value proposition in libraries and the skills needed by your work force to succeed.Libraries are not the only educational and cultural institutions that are living in these disruptive times. Museums, cultural centers and performing and producing arts organizations also have to adjust and change as well. Gail Dexter Lord, Co-President of Lord Cultural Resources, the largest cultural planning firm in the world will deliver a keynote and share her theories and practices around cultural planning.
The event is open to
library directors or their designees
in public and academic libraries.
What happens when collections are physical and virtual?
What happens when the public educational system is seen as weak and the library is expected to play a more meaningful role?
What happens when social media and crowdsourcing demands a new army of “volunteers”?
What happens when the library moves outside of its traditional walls?
These questions and others will be the focus of two days of conversations, presentations and discussion with leaders from the fields of museums, cultural planning organizations and libraries.
This year, we are delighted to host a reception with special guest Natasha Trethewey, Poet Laureate will join us for Thursday’s cocktail reception. Attendees are welcomed to stay on at the library for Trethewey’s public presentation following the reception.
