This year’s event will focus on the library’s role in civic reinvention and the new face of public engagement. Attendees and expert presenters will explore the trends that are reshaping public life, how civic leaders are responding with projects small and large, and how the library fits in as both a public place and a key source of visionary leadership.

Set in Philadelphia in partnership with the Free Library of Philadelphia, led by Siobhan Reardon, LJ‘s 2015 Librarian of the Year, this high-engagement event will tap thought leaders in civic design who are reinventing our cities and towns—with a focus on putting people first. It will showcase exemplars of library innovation stepping into new areas and reshaping what partnership means as mission expands. And, it will dive into the mindset and skill shift required of library leaders to effectively put their institutions at the heart of this movement.

Plenty of time will be allotted for networking during a reception and breaks; and an optional tour of local library branches is in development.

More information about the program and presenters will be available soon but don’t wait, register today. We’ll update you with program and tour announcements as information becomes available.

Who Should Attend?

The Directors’ Summit is designed for those currently working in a public library at the level of an Executive Director or Deputy (though titles vary widely). If you work in a different type of library and would like an invitation to attend a future summit, please query us describing your library setting and role, and LJ will consider the request if space allows. Write to and include “Directors’ Summit” in the subject line.
