Libraries and Literacies: Redefining Our Impact
The 2017 Public Library Think Tank, presented by Library Journal and School Library Journal will focus on what “literacy” means today, from reading readiness to digital and news literacy and how libraries take leadership on fostering lifelong literacy and learning. This two-day event will bring together public library leaders and directors, children’s services librarians, and young adult librarians, along with other leading thinkers on literacy today. Together, participants will learn about innovative programs and services from a series of insightful presentations and collaborative sessions. Attendees will leave with practical strategies that can be immediately applied to make a lasting impact.
We’ll look at literacy in its widest spectrum, including digital, media/information, civic, reading, visual, multicultural, and health literacy and surface ideas and tools to utilize research and leverage partnerships to fuel programming and funding. Attendees will gain insight into how to think strategically through a literacy lens, implement literacy initiatives that go way beyond story time, and build community engagement.
