On November 13, 2012 the Stanaker Neighborhood Library, Houston, TX, part of the Houston Public Library, reopened following a major renovation. Founded in 1950 and opened anew in 1985, the 9,265 square foot branch now features red and orange aluminum exterior panels and a fresh entry canopy with new pavers and a purple ceiling that will lead patrons toward the remodeled entryway. Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold, MD, recently completed its renovation and expansion of the Andrew G. Truxal Library, an original 1968 campus structure. The 45,000 square foot building gained an additional 32,000 square feet in the $17.2 million project designed by architecture, engineering, and interior design firm EwingCole. [...]
Hartford Public Library, CT, celebrated its renovated and expanded Dwight Branch (pictured) on December 3. The library was originally founded in 1907 and has now expanded twofold, from 1,100 square feet to 2,200 square feet, in its location connected to the Parkville Elementary School and the Parkville Senior Center. Designed by Tai Soon Kim Partners of Hartford, with general contractor Pioneer Builders of Newington, the renovation increases space for programs and services while updating the building for the modern user.
Two new libraries are coming to Dothan, AL, with the October 17 groundbreaking for the 23,000 square foot downtown Main Library and the 13,000 square foot Westgate Park Branch. Designed by architect J. Michael Lee of Dothan as a replacement for the Houston-Love Memorial Library, the new Main Library will encompass outdoor reading areas, a 100-seat meeting room, a business center, and dedicated children’s and teen spaces. The Lafayette Public Library, CO reopened on October 6, following a two-month remodel that included the installation of new seating and workstations, a reworked checkout area, new paint and flooring, and the total relocation of collections, which encompass 96,739 books and magazines. The 15-year-old, 30,000 square foot facility now also has 27 Internet computers. [...]
The Metropolitan Library System, Oklahoma City, opened its newly renovated Southern Oaks Library on September 25. The 1975 branch grew by 3,471 square feet, to 20,164 square feet, during the 16-month, $2.4 million project. The refurbished library was designed by Architectural Design Group, with Anderson & House Inc. as general contractor.
The new two-story Uintah County Library & Community Resource Center, Vernal, UT (pictured), opened in August following an 11-month effort. The 32,000 square foot facility, designed by JWL Architecture and Babcock Design Group, with construction management from Layton Construction, houses a 40-seat classroom, a 150-seat community room, 50 public computers covering all age ranges, designated children’s and teen spaces, and a 140,000-item collection, with room to grow.
