Reader Leaves $1.2 Million to CA Library

By LJ Staff

A woman who lived in a modest apartment in Ventura, CA, left $1.2
million—most of her estate—to the Ventura County Library system with
instructions that income from the bequest be used to buy books for her local
branch in Ventura, the E.P. Foster Library. Joyce Lyon, a widow who died last
November at 92, used to check out books from the library with her late husband
George, for whom she requested the endowment be named. The estate is expected to
generate about $60,000 annually for the branch, tripling its existing books and
materials budget, reported the Los Angeles Times.
