Neighbors in LI Town Now Have Borrowing Privileges

By LJ Staff

After a 15-week pilot program
showed that residents from Smithtown could check books out of the
neighboring Commack Public Library, NY, without abusing the privilege, the
program has been expanded. No longer will residents be limited to only two books
a week. According to Newsday, state officials reasoned that because the
Smithtown Library had started to improve, Smithtown residents would no longer
exploit Commack’s resources, as had happened when they were banned from
borrowing back in 1984.
