Houston Public Library Celebrates Centennial

By LJ Staff

The Houston Public Library celebrated its centennial with a “One Hundred and One Big Party,” on January 24 from noon to 4 p.m., at the Central Library. The library dubbed its milestone: “Empowering Houstonians for 100 Years: 1904-2004.” As part of the Celebration, an Official Texas Historical Marker for the Julia Ideson Building was to be dedicated. The building, designed in the Spanish Renaissance style, opened in 1926 and now houses the Library’s Houston Metropolitan Research Center comprised of the Texas and Local Collection and Archives Department.
