By LJ Staff

The Kingfisher Memorial Library, OK, has received a bequest of $163,000, representing more than half the library’s $270,000 operating budget. Donor Raymond Young died in 2002 at the age of 98. Young specified that the city administer the bequest, with the interest to used for as yet unspecified “critical needs.” Young was a cofounder of a chain of more than 900 discount variety stores, now defunct, called TG&Y Stores Co. He opened one of his earliest stores in Kingfisher in 1927.
