Second Phase of Hartford PL Renovation, Expansion Begins

By LJ Staff

The second phase in an ambitious $42 million renovation and expansion of the Hartford Public Library has begun. Full service, open access to collections, and uninterrupted programming will be maintained during the complete renovation of the 50-year-old Central Library. The construction period is expected to last from September 2004 to December 2005. Exterior facade repairs, replacement of windows, plaza renovations, and landscaping are included in the scope of the work for Phase II. A new curved glass facade will be constructed on the plaza facing Main Street. The interior will be entirely renovated, with a new open floor plan, new architectural finishes, and new furnishings. All existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems will be replaced.
