Palo Alto Branches to Remain Open, Unfortunately!

By LJ Staff

Palo Alto, CA, council members last week quashed a plan to close two of the five library branches, which was proposed by director Paula Simpson in an attempt to consolidate collections and personnel. "We’ve got deteriorating facilities, over-stretched staff, increasing use–and no more money," Simpson told the San Jose Mercury News. Although residents might view the decision as a win, the library now faces cuts to its $5.25 million budget, as city manager Frank Benest warned if Simpson’s money-saving plan was defeated.
