Heart of the Community Contest

By LJ Staff

Berkshire Publishing is hosting a photo essay contest to identify 75 libraries throughout North America for a coffeee table volume being published in 2006. Heart of the Community: The Libraries We Love will feature libraries great and small that are "beloved centers of their community," the publisher said. The 75 libraries selected to appear will be "geogaphically representative of the United States and Canada and also representative of urban/suburban/rural libraries."

The Advisory Board for the project includes Nancy Kranich, past president of the American Library Association (ALA), Bernard Vavrek, director of the Center for Rural Librarianship at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and others. Submissions will be accepted from October 7, 2005 through December 15, 2005. The libraries chosen will be announced at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio in January 2006, and the book will be launched at the ALA Annual Conference in June 2006.
