Broward Library Gets Nine Percent Budget Increase

By LJ Staff

Broward County Library (BCL), Fort Lauderdale, FL, has received a substantial nine percent budget increase for the new fiscal year that began October 1. The $63.6 million budget approved by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners will fund five new libraries and 63 new employee positions. The budget also includes money for the installation of wireless "hot spots" at every BCL location and more than $1 million set aside to create a Hispanic Cultural and Educational Center on one floor of the main facility in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The new center, still in its planning stages, will feature materials, exhibits, and programs that reflect and portray the more than 20 different Hispanic cultures found within Broward County.
