2006 Edgar Award Winners Announced

At its 60th annual Edgar Allen Poe Awards dinner held April 27, 2006 at New York City’s Grand Hyatt Hotel, the Mystery Writers of America recognized the best in mystery fiction and nonfiction published in 2005. For Best Novel, Jess Walter’s Citizen Vance (Reagan Books) was the surprise winner, beating heavy favorites Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer and George Pelecanos’s Drama City. Theresa Schwegel won Best First Novel by An American Author for Officer Down (St. Martin’s Minotaur), and Jeffrey Ford’s Girl in the Glass (Dark Alley) was named Best Paperback Original. In the nonfiction arena, the Best Fact Crime award went to Edward Dolnick’s Rescue Artist: A True Story of Art, Thieves, and the Hunt for a Missing Masterpiece (HarperCollins), while Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her (Harcourt) by Melanie Rehak was honored as Best Critical/Biographical.
