JFK Library Adding New Wing

By LJ Staff

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library at long last is planning to add a $22 million new wing to house the papers of Sen. Edward Kennedy and the archives of other relatives and members of President Kennedy’s White House staff. The AP reports that the "two-story, 30,000 square foot wing will be the facility’s largest expansion in the 27-year history of the museum." Congress already has ponied up $2 million for design costs, and State Senator John Hart is filing the bill to permit the feds to purchase a 66,000 square foot lot from the University of Massachusetts for the wing, which will begin construction next year. The extra space is desperately needed, as many of the library’s materials are now housed off-site.
