LC Makes Effort To Capture Web Sites

By LJ Staff

The Library of Congress (LC) has launched a web site about its program to capture and preserve important web sites for future access. To facilitate the project, LC and partners are developing web capture tools in four areas: curator selection, verification, and permissions; acquisition; collection storage and maintenance; and access. Some of the subject areas included are recent Supreme Court nominations, Hurricane Katrina, the death of Pope John Paul II, Darfur, Sudan, the Iraq War, and the upcoming Election 2006. LC collects sites only after it has received formal permission from content owners.
