Lost Eugene O’Neill Story Found

By LJ Staff

Robert Dowling, a lit professor at Central Connecticut State University, has discovered the manuscript for a long lost short story by Nobel laureate Eugene O’Neill. The story, titled The Screenews of War, is, according to the New York Post, "about a cast of Hollywood newsreel makers who were filming the Mexican revolution for American Audiences." O’Neill dabbled briefly with the short story format as well as poetry before turning his literary intentions to drama. According to the Post, both The New Yorker and Atlantic Monthly are interested in publishing the 40+ page story, but ownership first has to be worked out with the writer’s estate.
