Book News: Laurence J. Kirshbaum Joins OverDrive’s Board

  • 40-year publishing veteran is former Time Warner Chair/CEO
  • Says ebooks, audio books, and digital media markets “exploding”
  • Also sits on Baker & Taylor’s board

Laurence J. Kirshbaum, founder of LJK Literary Management and former chair and longtime CEO of Time Warner Book Group, has joined OverDrive’s board of directors, the company announced December 19. “During my career, I’ve seen the publishing industry evolve with the adoption of new book formats, business models, and sales channels,” said Kirshbaum. “Today, ebooks, audio books, and digital media markets are exploding, and OverDrive is uniquely positioned as a global leader in the value-added distribution of digital books and other content.”

Kirshbaum has been in publishing for nearly 40 years as an author, publisher, and agent. He worked in Random House’s marketing department until 1974 when he joined Warner Books as marketing VP. He remained at Warner Books for more 30 years, spending his last decade as chair and CEO. He also serves on the board of Baker & Taylor.
