Survey Methods

We received responses either through the institutional survey or individuals representing 44 of the LIS schools surveyed in the United States and from 1,996 of the reported LIS graduates. Michigan and Wisconsin (Madison) prepared their own surveys. Arizona provided only the institutional data.

Schools were provided the choice of responding by paper or electronic survey, with most choosing the electronic format. Some graduates and schools reported incomplete information, rendering some data unusable. For schools that did not complete the institutional survey, data were taken from graduate surveys and thus are not full representations of all graduating classes.

We are pleased that some schools that were unable to participate in the past were able to do so this year, including Catholic University of America, Clarion University, Pratt Institute, and University of Southern Mississippi.

The following schools declined to participate or did not respond to calls for participation: Emporia, University of Maryland, North Carolina Central, North Carolina Greensboro, and Valdosta. The Canadian programs, including Alberta, British Columbia, Dalhousie, McGill, Montreal, Toronto, and Western Ontario, conduct their own annual salary and placements surveys and do not participate in LJ‘s annual report. The University of Puerto Rico does not participate.
