Library People News: Hires, Promotions, Retirements, and Obituaries

Julie Ann Garrison was named Dean of University Libraries at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, effective March 1. She is currently Associate Dean of Research and Instructional Services, Grand Valley State University, Allendale, MI.

Dillon Geshel is now Director of Portage Lake District Library, Houghton, MI.

Michaela Haberkern was appointed Deputy Director, Aurora Public Library, IL. She was previously Assistant Director at Hinsdale Public Library, IL.

William P. Kelly, current Chair of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, was named Andrew W. Mellon Director of the Research Libraries of the New York Public Library.

Rachel Korman was named Information Assistant II at Vaughan Public Libraries, Ont. She was previously Senior Circulation Assistant at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law, Drexel University, Philadelphia.

Kyle Neugebauer was appointed Director, Thomas Memorial Library, Cape Elizabeth, ME, following the retirement of Jay Scherma. He was previously Adult Services Librarian at Walker Memorial Library, Westbrook, ME.

Mary Rzepczynski was promoted to Director, Delta Township District Library, Lansing, MI, following Cherry Hamrick’s retirement. Rzepczynski was previously Delta’s Assistant Director and has been serving as Interim Director since October.

John Stoneberg retired as Director, L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, Eau Claire, WI. He was with the library for 38 years.

Pamela Wilonski is now Children’s and Teen Librarian at Weston Public Library, CT. She was previously Children’s and Young Adult Library Services Assistant at Woodbridge Town Library, CT.

The Boston Public Library Board of Trustees elected two new members: Cheryl Cronin, partner at Cronin & Leonard LLP, and Bob Gallery, president of Bank of America Massachusetts, who will serve as chair.


Will Owen, Associate University Librarian for Technical Services and Systems at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, died on December 2. He was 63 years old.
